Random thoughts on my first Father's Day celebration

It's 12am and eveybody's fast asleep and I'm here alone trying to collect my thoughts on what has just happened last Saturday, my first pre-Father's day celebration with my wife Jenny. I must say fatherhood has so far been an eye openning experience for me. Father's day is like your birthday but only better since you know everyone else is celebrating it as well.

Who needs a dad when you have Tita Weena and friends

Anyway, everything started out great, we ate lunch outside (Florabelle in Podium) : good food and excellent service (my food tastes a lot better when the service is good, at least you don't stess out thinking that the waiter or the cook is doing something funny to your steak before serving it). Next came the Spa, having been sleepless these past few days this is the first time that I truly enjoyed being manhandled by another person hehe, I almost fell asleep every step of the way (again, good service from the guys of The Spa so happy na naman ako).

Last but not the least we had some alone time, since our son came into our lives my wife and I have had very little time to sleep and really have the time to just chill out. She's at home all the time and I'm mostly out working, when I come back that's usually around 7-8pm I eat and try to sleep because come 11pm, it's showtime! Our son is practically awake the entire night so I feed him and put him to sleep (be creative) maybe until around 3am.

I miss being able to just hang out with Jen this way, the "wala lang moments" seem to be more precious these days since Jacob came. We ate over at Omakase in Libis and just talked until late (for parents that's around 10pm hahaha....old farts), she wrote me a letter actually 2 which I read while waiting for our food. I was touched by it, it's diffent in a way because she wrote it as a mother.

Jenny as a mother

Damn, I think this fatherhood business is making me soft inside --- too soft in fact that while watching TV last week (you'll miss TV when you're a new daddy) I chanced upon Wish Ko Lang and before I knew it I had tears crawling down my cheeks as I watched this segment about this grandmother who wanted to hear her granddaughter sing. Crap, I can just image my son seeing me like this and going "what the hell are you doing old man?" hehe.

Sample of the Wish Ko Lang show,
not the exact episode but you'll get the idea

As we returned home I realized that this is the first of many Father's day celebrations to come. I can't wait for next year, Kaya to all the "zombie dads" out there Happy Father's day.

Sulitin nyo na, tom is another 364 days of Mother's day hehe.
